Help editor is not helping

When I was using WinDev 5.5, I stopped using the internal help editor because it was just not working. Constantly crashing is the best way to describe it. When I started using WinDev 10, I tried to use the internal help editor once again. I finally decided to go back to my trustable HelpScribble instead... Here's why...

Sadly, today, after testing the help editor in WinDev 10 045n, I decided to go back to HelpScribble. After sending several bug reports to the support and waiting for corrections, I just can't wait anymore. And here's a list of problems I found in the help editor that I just can't go around anymore. And god knows that I prefer to use internal tools when I can.

  • External links are lost: When adding hyperlink to web pages (by examples), you have to compile immediately, because when you quit and reopen the help file, the links have just disappeared. Recreating the links each time you need to compile a help file is just too much wasted time for me.
  • By the way, you CAN create a hyperlink to a web page, but you CANNOT create one to an email address (mailto:...) It seems that they just didn't think it was important enough. O f course, the suggestion has been sent to their development team.... You know the drill!
  • HotSpots on images are a big source of wonder for me... The position of the spot in the compiled help doesn't match the position defined in the editor (the larger the image, the bigger the vertical error, go figure). Add to that that I had to recreate the links several times there too (for internal links, in that case)...

If you found other problem in the help editor, you can let me know and I'll add them here...

I didn't take the time to test the help editor in WinDev 9 to see if it was behaving in a better way, so let me know if it's the case.

Basically, if you just want to create help files really simples without any external links, hotspots on images, links to your email address, and so on, the help editor is fine.

If you need to do any of these obviously incredibly advanced stuff, use another tool (Helpscribble 99$ by example)...

By the way, if PCSoft wants to prove me wrong on that one, please DO! I'll be very happy to have an improved help editor make me remove that page from my web site.
